5/26/24: It was easy to get an afternoon reservation at the Alto Rooftop because most people went away for the Memorial Day Weekend. There's indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside. The views of New Jersey and New York were quite picturesque. Drinks were very good. We had a Gin Blossom Cocktail and a Yuzu Paloma. Appetizers were excellent. The Chicken Skewers and Lobster Sliders were out of this world delicious. Service was very good. The entire rooftop has a cool vibe to it. Alto is located in the M C Hotel, 690 Bloomfield Ave. Montclair, NJ. It's about 2 blocks from the Montclair Art Museum. Street parking and valet parking are available.
Beautiful interior and great outdoor space! Glad we had good weather but the view of the city skyline must be beautiful without the clouds. The menu is short but that's a necessity when you're just looking for a simple but elevated happy hour experience. We shared two pizzas (Margherita, Rooftop Bee Sting) and Chickpea Panisse, which I enjoyed - resembled polenta fries. Besides the pizza the menu offers a variety of dishes, different from typical bar/bistro offerings which I appreciate.
I came here with friends for a drink after having dinner in the area. There is a specific elevator that gets you to the rooftop. Once we got to the entrance we had an awkward encounter with a bouncer who stared us down as we walked in, it was odd. The bar is really nice and the place is spacious with several tables available. The server we had was pretty attentive. We all had the paloma, I really enjoyed it. There was a small selection of food available on the menu. They had a DJ that played a variety of music (hip-hip, reggaeton, pop, disco) People were checking out the outside space but it was too cold to be outside. There were a good amount of people by the time we left. Overall, we had a good experience.
